Fun Monday - I've got a crush on you, sweetie pie

Our hostess this week is Jo Beaufoix and she has come up with such a fun challenge! Here it is:

I want to know about your first ‘celebrity’ crush. You know, the one you fancied from that band, or that film, or who read the news, or who won Gold at the Olympics.

Did you have their pictures on your wall or in your locker?

Did you dress like them, style or colour your hair like them, follow them, meet them, marry them? (It could happen.)

Photos of THEM would be good, photos of YOU at the time you liked them would be even better.

Also, if you have time, I’d like to know whether they had any influence over your life, the person you became, or if they were just an embarrassing blip you would kind of rather forget about.

My first celebrity crushes were definitely the latter - just an embarrassing blip I would kind of rather forget about. My first two crushes became crushes within a year or two of each other so I'm including them both. And y'all can not imagine the love I felt for these two teen heartthrobs.

I had posters in my room of them - on the inside of my closet door and on a bulletin board mainly because my parents weren't crazy about me tacking stuff or taping it to my walls. I knew the words to all of their songs. I played them over and over and over on my record player (because yes, I am that old). And I stared at their photos and day dreamed for more hours than I care to admit of either one of them being the first boy I "made out" with.

I was nine years old when my crushes first began.

Here I am at my 11th birthday party opening my first poster of one of these guys. The girl on the far left was the one who gave me the poster (I hope I gave you a big thank you hug Angela!). She and the second girl on the left lived in my neighborhood. My younger brother is to the right of me. He looks a little too excited about my poster of a boy but he was only 10 so I'll excuse him.

The year was 1979. And apparently I thought overall shorts were cool. And we will not speak of the lamp or the hideous sofa in the background. It's really best that we not speak of them at all.

The guy on that poster? Why yes it's true. I'm 39 years old and I still have my vinyl records of my first celebrity crushes. And I have two 45's of the first one. Sadly, I no longer have any posters of them. And no, I do not have a record player to play them on. I also do not stare at their photos anymore and day dream about making out with them. Especially the second crush I'm going to admit to because he had lots of issues later in life. Please excuse the quality of the photos. I messed around forever with the lighting in my living room, my camera settings, etc., but I'm no pro so I did the best I could. I couldn't get rid of the horrible glare. If you look closely at the bottom, you may notice a little creature. I received a prize in the mail from the Nekkerd Lizards! It's my very own Nekked Lizard magnet and I couldn't be more pleased with it! Thanks Nekked Lizards!

Oh yes, you want me to get on with it and expose my embarrassing secret of my embarrassing celebrity crushes. Before I do so, may I ask you to repeat one thing over and over to yourself as you're cracking up: "She was only 11 years old. She was only 11 years old. She was only 11 years old."

Really y'all....what was not to love about Shaun Cassidy with his snazzy white painters hat, his snazzy white teeth and his snazzy feathered hair? The way he jauntily put his white painters hat a tiny bit askew to the side....be still my heart! I was so thrilled when he started on The Hardy Boys show because I could watch him in action instead of staring at a photo. Oh how I wanted my name to be Jill. Because he met her on a Monday and his heart stood still. Da doo ron ron indeed. You may want to invest in some ear plugs if you hit 'play' on this You Tube video.

Next up was this hawwwwwt guy:

Oh how I wanted to play with his cool hair. I spent hours thinking about playing with his cool hair. Doesn't he have cool hair?

This was the Leif Garrett I fell in love with:

Then something started happening to him and I just can't think about it because I want to go beat up that hussy Nicollette Sheridan for posing with my Leif like this. I don't know what's worse....her skimpy bikini or the fact that they posed on a couch so ugly with ruffled pillows. That is just not a cool enough setting for Leif to be posing in. And why is his hand on her hip like that? Who does she think she is?

Photos like that one led to him going down the wrong path until he ended up like this. Where oh where did his sexy cool hair go?

Luckily, I grew up a little bit and promptly fell head over heels for this next guy for quite a few years. I spent every afternoon watching him as Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital. I wasn't supposed to watch TV after school so I would make a note of what channel the TV was on and what level the volume was at when I turned it on. Before I turned it back off I'd set it back to the channel and volume it was on and I never once got caught for watching Dr. Noah Drake and all of his General Hospital shenanigans after school when I was supposed to be doing boring stuff like homework. Now that I'm grown up I realize my parents probably never knew what channel and volume level they had left the TV on the night before. I also camped out overnight for tickets to his concert. I was amazed my parents allowed this. My older brother had to go chaperone me and my friends. But he just dropped us off and went somewhere for the night and came back for us the next morning. My parents still don't know about that. We managed to get fifth row seats and it was almost more than my poor little teen heart could take:

And naturally this led to me wanting to change my name to something else that started with the letter "J". Jessie.

Now I need to run so I can put all of my albums and 45's back in my stereo cabinet before someone sees them out on my coffee table. I would hate Hot Brazilian to show up and think I'm staring at their photos and day dreaming about making out with them.
